The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), in partnership with FIFA, has officially launched the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) Competition aimed at identifying and nurturing young football talent across the country.

The launch event took place at Kamena Stadium and was presided over by FERWAFA Second Vice President Mugisha Richard.

Speaking at the event, Mugisha reaffirmed FERWAFA’s commitment to supporting the development of young footballers through structured programs.

“Through the FIFA TDS programme, we are creating a structured pathway for young players to develop and reach higher levels of the game,” he said.

The launch of the competition was marked by three opening matches played in different youth categories: U14 Boys, U14 Girls, and U16 Boys, showcasing emerging talents from various teams.

PSG Academy beat ES Nyamagabe 3–2 in the U14 boys’ category, while PSG Academy girls defeated Remera Rukoma 4–1. In the U16 boys’ match, TSS Runda edged PSG Academy 3–2.

According to FERWAFA, the competition will bring together 54 teams competing in four categories: U14 and U16 for both Girls, and Boys.

The initiative is part of Rwanda’s efforts to strengthen grassroots football development using the FIFA Talent Development Scheme.

Through this programme, FERWAFA hopes to expand opportunities for young players, identify promising talent early, and support their progression to higher levels of football.

The FIFA Talent Development Scheme is designed to help member associations build sustainable systems for scouting, training, and developing young footballers, ultimately contributing to the global growth of the sport.
