The Rwanda Youth Clubs for Peace Organization (RYCLUPO) has provided school materials to students from vulnerable families at Kijote Primary School in Bigogwe Sector, Nyabihu District.
The support included school uniforms, bags, shoes, sports balls, notebooks and pens.
Beneficiary students said the assistance will help them continue their studies with the materials they had previously lacked.
Itangishaka Mutuyi, a Primary Two pupil, told Ijamboryumwana that the support came at the right time as she had started the school year with very limited supplies.
“I am very happy because I had begun this second year with only a few school materials. Now I have what I need to study well. I will work hard to show those who helped me that I can succeed,” she said.
Another pupil, Nshimiyimana Emmanuel, also thanked RYCLUPO for helping students study without worrying about the lack of essential materials.
The Executive Director of RYCLUPO, Ladislas Yassin Nkundabanyanga, said the initiative aims to motivate vulnerable children to stay in school and support them as the country’s future generation.
“We came to support children from disadvantaged families who struggle to obtain basic school materials. In collaboration with the leadership of Bigogwe Sector, we want them to feel equal to other children, because the lack of school supplies often contributes to school dropout,” he said.
Nkundabanyanga added that keeping children in school is also a key indicator of peace and stability in society.
“Peace cannot be achieved if many children are not in school. When all children attend school, it strengthens our future because they will become the leaders of our country,” he said.
The Education Officer in Bigogwe Sector, Nshimiyimana Gerard, commended the initiative, noting that such support helps return school dropouts to classrooms.
“Helping children who left school due to financial challenges is very important. It strengthens our efforts to bring them back to school while promoting solidarity and respect for human rights,” he said.
RYCLUPO operates in Nyabihu, Rubavu and Rutsiro districts and plans to extend similar support to other vulnerable students in different schools across the country.
The organization focuses on youth empowerment, peacebuilding, fighting genocide ideology, and preventing drug abuse, particularly among young people.
